CMI is located in Thailand on a large and modern industrial estate on the site of Cobra Inter a 4,000 person strong composites company producing surfboards, windsurfs, industrial products and prepreg parts for the automobile industry.
CMI is a subsidiary of the Cobra group and has been in operation for 2 years, the company today has a 140 total of staff and 12 full time overseas staff. The company manufactures high quality composite series sail and power boats, custom race yachts, production performance dinghies, small keel boats plus components for other manufacturers.
The majority of production consists of completely assembled yachts/dinghies. In the first 2 years the builds completed include 4 of 46 ft carbon/epoxy/pvc race boats, 3 of epoxy/glass/pvc 40 ft race boats, 22 of 40 ft catamarans, small dinghies, series 8.5 m power boats and various prepreg components for existing brands. The facilities include wet preg and pre-preg facilities, 3 large ovens, components rooms, gelcoat spray booths, a technical office, also on site CNC facilities and autoclaves.
CMI is a fast growing company with many interesting project already underway and new ones planned for 2008. The following 4 types of vacancy exist with possibilities for full time and project based personnel all of whom need a good command of the English language.

Job Offers
Required is a good knowledge of some or all of the following
- Epoxy resin PVC cored wet preg laminate constructions hulls, decks, components and assembly
- Prepreg nomex laminate constructions including hulls, decks, components and assembly
- Acurate mould and plug building knowledge
- Deck fitout and installation of hardware
- Systems fit out experience including mechanical/propulsion installation and plumbing systems
- Performance sailboats
Other important capabilities to include the abilities of running a team including planning, preparation, recording, ability to work with and teach less experienced operators and ensuring a correct work environment.
Required is a good knowledge and experience of some or all of the following
- Wet laminate polyester / vinylester resin gelcoat wet laminate systems for production of hulls, decks and components
- Infusion process using polyester/ vinylester / pvc core for production of hulls, decks and components
- Installation of mechanical gear
- Reading and understanding drawings
- General sailboat building and operating experience
- General power boat building and operating experience
- Teak deck work
- Veneer, furniture and cabinet making for interiors.
Other important capabilities to include the abilities of running a team including planning, preparation, recording, ability to work with and teach less experienced operators and ensuring a correct work environment.
The department requires one person to help expand and oversee the existing and capable team in the production of performance dinghies and small keel boats, the job requires the ability to learn the production technique, oversee and run the team, ensure the quality control, record keeping and client relations.
Production experience that will be useful and includes the following
- Experience of performance composite dinghy building or one design manufacture
- Deck gear and fitout experience.
- Polyester, E-Glass coremat, gelcoat construction.
- Vinylester infusion systems
- Small production line experience
Other important capabilities to include the abilities of running a team such as
- Planning and preparation
- Scheduling and recording
- Maintaining a correct work environment
Note
Experience in some or all of the above techniques are an advantage but not essential due to the setup and systems being in place consideration will also be given it person with less practical experience, but the right set of personal skills, such as motivation, organizational, managerial and communication abilities, a strong interest in sailing and small boats allied to experience with office, email, and autocad or similar, plus an engineering understanding and drive to learn.
CMI has under consideration for 2008 both a new small series production for a 40 ft performance yacht and various new custom projects.
2 new Project Managers with enthusiasm and relevant experience are required. The work will include
- Helping to produce Work Instruction Sheets and raw materials ordering and checks.
- Implementation, instruction and organization of correct operating procedures and systems for production, stores, materials and also to control equipment and parts supplies for the projects
- Running of schedules and team organization, overseeing of shop floor work and quality control
- Organised and methodical approach required, planning, recording and computer skills required
